Glynn Wells

Glynn Wells is the Director of Bands. Wells is the a graduate of Lindale High School and Stephen F. Austin where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education in 1989 and his Master in Education with a Principal Certification in 2005. While in college, he has was an active member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Kappa Kappa Psi Music Service Fraternities. In 1989, Wells was voted Outstanding Bandsman by his peers at SFA.

Before coming to Nacogdoches in 1990, Wells was employed by New Boston ISD as a Junior High Band Director. Upon being hired by Jim Hagood in August of 1990, Mr. Wells became the low brass specialist for the District as well as the beginning band and seventh grade band coordinator. He assisted on all campus levels. When Mr. Hagood retired in May 2000, the District opened the search for a new High School leader. As July quickly closed and August band was rapidly approaching, NISD asked Mr. Wells to step in and prepare the High School Marching band until a replacement could be found. He was named Interim Director and in the Fall of 2001 was named the Director of Bands.

Under his direction, the NHS “Golden Dragon Bands” have continued to be highly acclaimed and well received throughout the East Texas area and continue to be a source of pride for the Nacogdoches Community and NISD.


Chris Clifton

Chris Clifton is the Assistant High School Director. Mr. Clifton joined the NISD band staff family in the Fall of 2006. He is a graduate of the East Texas school of Gladewater, near Longview and was a student of Mitchell Smith. Once Mr. Clifton graduate Gladewater, he attended and graduate from Kilgore College before proceeding to Austin to complete his Bachelor Degree in Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Clifton was an active member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Music Service Fraternity and is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association as well as the Texas Bandmasters Association.

Mr. Clifton’s responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of the high school program as well as teaching beginning band and assisting at both Middle School programs. During the spring semester, Mr. Clifton is in charge of the NHS Concert Band.


Javier Nino

Javier Nino is the lead teacher at Mike Moses Middle School. Mr.Nino is a graduate of Wylie High School and Stephen F. Austin State University. While at Stephen F. Austin, he was active in Kappa Kappa Psi, National Music Service Fraternity serving as it’s President one year as well serving as Drum Major for the Lumberjack Marching Band for two years. Upon graduating from SFA, Mr. Nino was the third High School Band Director at Lindale High School for two years before being hired as Assistant HS Band Director at Nacogdoches in 2003. He remained in that position for two years and then accepted a position as the Band Director for Timpson ISD in 2005. In July of 2006, Mr. Nino returned to NISD to be the lead band director at Moses Middle School.


LeighAnn Dixon

LeighAnn Dixon is in her twenty second year as woodwind specialist for the district. A graduate of Jacksonville High School and SFA, where she earned Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and Master’s of Music Education degrees. Miss Dixon spends countless hours with woodwind students and has played an integral part in the success of the NISD band program since 1984.

Miss Dixon’s responsiblities include not only teaching woodwinds and serving as a mentor to other staff members, but also in the rehearsing and preparing of all other ensembles throughout the district.

Miss Dixon is recognized and requested state-wide clinician for her woodwind teaching techniques. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association as well as Texas Bandmasters Association
